The trends in modern music.

It seems that women are used a lot in the music industry. Women are objectified by having their sexuality used for things such as advertising, music videos and other things. Using women in music videos has become so prevalent that it's nearly impossible to be relevant in the music video business without exploiting them.

Hip Hop to our culture

Hip Hop is a big influence on the behaviors of citizens, especially in urban areas. Music such as Hip Hop usually has a part in setting an unspoken standard of how you're supposed to act and carry yourself in public.

Examples of this is how it is expected for a man to be able to "Pimp" and have lots of women. Another example is how women are subjugated for sexual appeal such as in ads or music videos. Factors such as these contribute to the way men treat women.

I think its ridiculous how everyone is taking so much money to build weapons to kill each other rather than using it usefully on schools, hospitals, etc. people are so tied up on war they are setting aside the important things. Besides harming and setting out to kill each other, they could be trying to help and benefit each other .. and/or US!
To have total control of a school system means to have total control of the future. The youth is the future, so there needs to be the utmost attention given to their education and their preparation for their futures.

Why We Fight

The amount of money that this country spends on the military industrial complex is astonishing. I never knew that that much money was spent on simply defense. Half of our budget to be exact. That takes so much away from schools, road construction, hospitals, etc.. I think the country doesn't have its priorities in check. How can there be a better future if there hasn't been any good preparation for it? It seems as though there will never be aby real progress with our country unless things change. On the up side though, because these videos are being created, people are begininng to take notice to whats going on..

My Thoughts on Getting Played

The first chapter of Getting Played really threw me off from what I thought it would be.. I thought it was a story type of novel that would explore the different problems and situations teens go through today. As it turns out, the book was about the study that took place for the research on the topic. The information that the writer discovered could have been used in a different way to write a different type of book on it. Though I still found the information to be interesting and truthful, I would have better liked a book that could really hold my attention, hopefully the following chapters will grab my interest and attention a little better.

I also feel that many teens today would agree with the information that was found with this study. Many of us face these same conditions on the daily basis and are expected to just deal with it.. It would be completely our fault if we don't make it out.. Well the odds aren't exactly on our side. And this all comes from the older generation that has NOT been through these things.. They faced a different struggle than we do today.. How can we receive help from those who do not know what we face?

The Struggles Students Face

As I re-read through this chapters of this book I have been given from fourth period sociology class, I recognize similar struggles between myself and the young adults in the chapters....

"The myth of inner city youth as screw-ups...."

"The myth of inner city youth as screw-ups is so powerful that adults often dismiss these students before even listening to them."

This quote stood out to me the most because it is so true..

The Teaching system

All you hear about now is how we, the youth, don't care about our education. It clearly shows in this video that we do care! These kids in this video are about 8-12 years of age and are speaking up for their education, but they are not hearing us. The ones that are pretending to want to help us, are treating our youth like animals. To snap at them like their dogs is uncalled for. They may think its "helping" us, but that i say it is cruelty and unnecessary. All i saw in the video is them hollering at the students, its not the way to go about it.

Focus of the Youth (movie)

I never knew kids as young as these kids think about their future in the manner that they do. They seem focused on what they inspire to be in life. That's good. It shows that our future generation has more of a positive outlook than what statistics say.

Why Attend School Anymore? (By Rose)

Nowadays, I really am beginning to hate school. It seems as though the harder I try to keep up and the more I work harder, I move up 3 steps to get knocked 15 steps back from where I started...

I have to work twice as hard because the school fucked up. I have to pick up the slack that they left behind..

The relationship of the schoolboard and the schools

Change in power in city hall has cause changes in the city. More specifically, the school board and schools are affected. The whites in power along with the upper class whites began to separate themselves to the suburbs while the blacks are left in the urban areas. This has caused a division, white and black, in New Orleans.

Altering the school system

If I could redesign the school system, I would mold it after vocations. What I mean is that I would separate the schools to cater to specific groups of jobs that people want to grow up and occupy.

Locating the problem, and fixing it

We look at race as an external feature (skin color). We think race descirbes our biology, and believe that our biology is based upon our physical features such as sports etc. That puts us in a place to think that ones race is better than the others, and deserves higher advantages, witch is presently controlling our schooling systems.

The struggle of having choices within constraints.

Choices people make become limited within constraints. Sure there will be some choices that exist but there aren't many available because of constraints that limit what you could do. things like racilization were constraints on races. For instance the Caucasians had better choices on their side because they were white. Being white gave many opportunities that other races didn't get. Blacks didn't have a choice to vote, Asians didn't have a choice to become naturalized citizens,  and many other things included.
